By on April 23, 2025 0 1533 Views

Things are still just getting started in the 2025 League1 Canada season. All of the divisions across the country have now gotten underway, although several teams are still waiting to kick their first ball. Regardless, look set for another thrilling year at the pro-am level.

Here is Northern Tribune’s second recap of everything that took place across the women’s divisions in Canada. To find the men’s review, you can read that here.

League1 BC: Unity Victorious in Ten-Goal Thriller

The second full week of League1 BC took place last weekend, and there was some real drama. Across the four matches, 20 goals were scored. Only one of the eight sides failed to find the back of the net.

It all kicked off on Friday when expansion side Langley United grabbed a 2-1 win at TSS Rovers. Daniela Ramirez scored the winner for the visitors 12 minutes after coming on.

Saturday’s first match might be a contender for game of the year. It ended 6-4 in Unity’s favour against the Vancouver Rise Academy. A seven-goal first half saw the guests take a 4-3 lead, before Ainsley Ewasiuk and Jenna Baxter – the latter getting her brace – finished the game off midway through the second 45.

The other match on Saturday saw Evolution come from a goal down to top Kamloops United 2-1 on the road. Both of the away side’s goals came at the very end as they stunned their opponents. On Sunday, Altitude scored four times in 10 second half minutes to beat Nanaimo United 4-0.

What a way to start the 2025 season in British Columbia. Four sides are on six points, while two more are on three. No draws yet from the opening 10 matches. It will be interesting to see how long that lasts.

Week 3 of League1 BC goes next weekend, starting with a Saturday triple header. Nanaimo hosts Burnaby, Kamloops takes on Altitude, and Unity battles TSS Rovers. The Sunday game has Langley United facing the Vancouver Rise Academy. Evolution will have their bye.

League1 Alberta: BTB Prevails in Curtain Raiser

The first game of the League1 Alberta season happened last Friday, as BTB Academy defeated new side Calgary Rangers 3-0. Samantha Bouchard scored the winner seven minutes before the interval. Then, in the second half, Makenna van der Veen and Isabella Amico rounded out the goals.

The first full week of action in Alberta does not happen until 2 May. That night will feature four games. St. Albert Impact will meet the revamped Calgary Wild U21, Callies United will battle Calgary Foothills, Calgary Blizzard faces off against the Edmonton Scottish, and the Calgary Villains will welcome BTB Academy. The Calgary Rangers will have the night off.

League1 Ontario: League Action Gets Underway

After the first two weekends in April saw L1 Cup play, things finally commenced in League1 Ontario’s three-tiered leagues. The top two divisions have a full slate of play, while League2 Ontario had a pair of matches to start. Here is a look at what went down in the province.

League1 Ontario Premier: NDC Ontario Makes Strong Statement

The first match of the 2025 L1O Premier Division came last Wednesday night in Waterloo. There, Waterloo United played to a 1-1 draw versus Alliance United. Chelsea Cheung’s leveller nine minutes from time cancelled out Aya Naamani’s first half opener.

Saturday saw the defending champions NDC Ontario open their account with a stunning 9-0 beating of North Mississauga. Teegan Melenhorst scored four of the goals – two in each half – as NDC continued from where they left off in 2024.

Simcoe County Rovers completed a comeback before half time as they got the better of FC London 2-1. Rylee Traicoff got the winner a couple of minutes before the interval. Saturday’s other game saw a goal at the very start, as well as at the very end, as Woodbridge Strikers beat Vaughan Azzurri 2-0.

The round concluded on Sunday with a six-goal game that ended 3-3 between North Toronto Nitros and Guelph United. Olivia Brown’s hattrick proved to be key for the latter, who managed to steal a point shortly after the hour mark.

Week 2 will be stretched across four days. Friday will see NDC Ontario welcome Alliance United to start the round. Saturday’s doubleheader pits together North Mississauga and Vaughan, as well as North Toronto and Simcoe County Rovers. On Sunday, Woodbridge meets Guelph, before Waterloo and London close things out on Monday.

League1 Ontario Championship: Scrosoppi and Whitby Cruise at Home

The Championship Division in Ontario saw all four games occur on Easter Sunday. It all started with a goalless draw in Windsor between Tecumseh and Pickering FC. However, the second game saw three goals – all for Whitby – in a 3-0 win over Hamilton United Elite. A 25th minute strike from Sophia Saville set the rebranded Whitby team on their way as they got two more after the break to earn the win.

Later on in the day, Unionville Milliken defeated Oakville SC 2-1. The hosts managed both of their goals six minutes apart, as Oakville scored in the 90th minute to make the final moments interesting. Scrosoppi completed the round with a 3-0 success over Rush Canada. The second half saw the hosts get on the board with a trio of markers to grab all three points.

The Championship Division will continue on Friday as Pickering welcomes Rush Canada. Saturday’s two games have Hamilton United facing Tecumseh, and Unionville battling Burlington. On Sunday, Oakville hosts Scrosoppi to conclude the round.

League2 Ontario: London Claims Win as Simcoe and Scrosoppi Draw

League2 Ontario also got underway on Easter weekend with a match in each division. The division is primarily comprised of B teams, but there are five senior clubs as well.

In the Southwest Conference, FC London B had a Lauren Seidel brace in their 4-1 defeat of Hamilton United B in the only match in the 10-team division.

There will be five games across the next week. Railway City‘s first-ever league game will be on Wednesday away to Waterloo United B. Thursday sees Burlington B and Rush Canada B square off. That leads to the weekend, where Railway City is again in action, this time at FC London B. St. Catharines Roma Wolves open up versus Guelph United B, while on Sunday, Cambridge United will have their first game, versus Oakville B.

In the Northeast Conference, Simcoe County Rovers B drew 1-1 with Scrosoppi B. A goal in either half was not enough to decide a winner in this clash as both teams left with a point.

Wednesday has three games in this conference. Master’s FA commences their season away to Whitby B, Vaughan Azzuri B hosts North Mississauga B, and Alliance United B takes on North Toronto B. Woodbridge B meets Unionville B on Thursday, before Sudbury Cyclones plays host to Pickering B on Saturday.

Ligue1 Quebec: Dominant Wins Galore

The second week of the Ligue1 Quebec season transpired, where there were several lopsided wins across both divisions. A look back on the results in La Belle Provence.

Ligue1 Quebec: CF Montreal, Ottawa Win Big

It was a full round of play in L1 Quebec, which started with a 3-1 victory for Royal Select Beauport over Celtix du Haut Richelieu. Lea-Jeanne Fortier bagged a brace for her team as they earned a second win in as many matches.

It was no-nonsense from Academie CF Montreal as they cruised to an 8-0 win over Chaudiere-Ouest. Hosane Soukou and Bianca Hanisch scored twice each as part of a six-goal first half for the guests. They added two more in the second period to round out a convincing result.

CS Longueuil earned their first three points of the year with a 2-0 success over AS Blainville, while FC Laval and CS Mont-Royal Outremont played to a 0-0 draw. On Sunday, Cindy Yang scored four times for Ottawa South United in their 6-0 defeat of CS St-Hubert.

Ligue2 Quebec: Four Clubs Grab Second Win

The second week of Ligue2 Quebec play resulted in six winners from the seven matches. Saturday’s lone clash ended in victory for AS Brossard, 4-0 over Phenix des Rivieres. A Chloe Murphy doubled sealed the deal for the visitors in this one as they go two for two.

Sunday started off with a pair of 1-0 away wins from CS Du Bas-Richelieu and CS LaSalle, who beat CS Roussillon and Revolution FC respectively. AS Gatineau also prevailed in a 4-0 result against CF L’International de Quebec.

Mistral de Sherbrooke, meanwhile, grabbed the largest win of the round with a 7-0 beating of FC Anjou. Six different players found the back of the net for the hosts in a dominant showing. It finished 1-1 between Union Lanaudiere Sud and CS Lanaudiere Nord, while Lakeshore edged CS Boucherville 3-2 as the latter’s attempts at a comeback fell just short.

Mistral de Sherbrooke, Lakeshore, CS LaSalle, and AS Brossard have a perfect six points so far two weeks in. CS Trident and CS Fury de Rimouski have yet to have their campaigns start.

Next Saturday’s lone game will see Trident play their opening match at home to AS Gatineau. The latter will be back in action on Sunday when they face CS Du Bas-Richelieu. Also that day, Boucherville has Levis-Est, CS Saint-Laurent meets Revolution and Lanaudiere-Nord hosts Phenix des Rivieres.
