Toronto FC Set To Kick-Off Robin Fraser Era On The Road Against D.C. United
Major League Soccer side Toronto FC is set to open its MLS 2025 season – the club’s nineteenth, and the league’s landmark thirtieth – on the road against D.C. United at Audi Field.
The Reds are starting anew with Robin Fraser at the wheel following the departure of coach John Herdman, who had an inauspicious exit amidst last year’s drone scandal investigations.
The match will see Toronto FC resume the chase for its first MLS Cup playoffs berth since 2020, and it all begins with head coach Fraser running the show.
Toronto FC have also added to new additions to Fraser’s coaching staff with Wolde Harris and former Toronto FC defender Steven Beitashour being named as assistant coaches.
The Reds will hope that bringing on Coach Fraser on will ignite some sparks back into regaining the winning identity that was ever-present when Robin Fraser assisted Greg Vanney for five seasons (2015-2019). During this time, TFC won the first domestic treble in MLS history, claiming the MLS Cup, the Supporter’s Shield, and the Canadian Championship in 2017.

Aside from Coach Fraser coming on board the Reds also added Canadian winger Theo Corbeanu and Norwegian forward Ola Brynhildsen to the attack, with a number of TFC2 additions earning first team contracts and Arsenal prospect Zane Monlouis being signed today after a successful trial spell.
The real test is now on as, historically, season openers have not resulted in the best outcome for the Reds: out of 18 MLS season kickoff games, the Reds have won a mere five. Last season’s MLS Opener ended in a draw for the Reds in Cincinnati.

In a head-to-head with D.C. United, the Reds hold a 12W-18L-12T record through 42 regular season meetups. TFC will be looking to secure their first-ever win at Audi Field, and the club’s first road victory against D.C. United since a 1-0 victory on April 16, 2016.
D.C. United had a brutal ending last season, falling just short of making the playoffs. In the offseason, the club brought in a couple new faces such as South Korean goalkeeper Kim Joon Hong, Australian defender Kye Rowles, and Brazilian winger Joao Peglow, who was listed unavailable for the the match due to a thigh injury.
Toronto FC, on the other hand, has not listed any players as unavailable for the match on the road, though the starting eleven though process by Robin Fraser has yet to be revealed.
The Reds will also bump into some familiar faces as some of D.C. United’s recent roster additions consists of a pair of former Reds in Lukas MacNaughton and Brandon Servania. This off-season, MacNaughton joins D.C. United from Nashville SC while Brandon Servania joins the black-and-red as a free agent after spending the last two seasons with Toronto FC.
With kickoff set for 7:30PM EST at Audi Field, the Robin Fraser era is just hours away from the court of public judgement as TFC seeks to restore itself to the glory days of the head coach’s last stint at BMO Field.
