After a late tough loss to FC Cincinnati at home, Toronto FC is headed down south to take on Philadelphia Union for the start of their short road trip.

The Reds’ recent 4-3 defeat on Saturday against the current Supporters Shield holders proved that they are capable of putting up pressure against a championship team. As Herdman said reflecting on the loss post game, “one has to be tough and that mindset has to be right.”

Coach Herdman will hopefully look to have the correct game plan and mindset as they take on Philadelphia Union, who sit in eighth place on the Eastern Conference. Toronto is just four points ahead of the Union, who are offensive ranked in seventh in the league while Toronto is tenth.

TFC and Herdman will have to dig deep as they are set to go up against Union’s notable players Julian Carranza and Daniel Gazdag. Coach Herdman will definitely look to tighten things up from a defensive stand point as they have conceded ten goals is the last four games.

Toronto FC will be without Brandon Servania, Shane O’Neill, and Richie Laryea, who is set as questionable and has been called up by new Canadian national team head coach Jesse Marsch to represent his country in international friendlies in June. Tyrese Spicer is also labeled as questionable for the Philly matchup after leaving Saturday’s game at the hour mark, while German striker Prince Owusu is listed as out as they monitor his calf.

Toronto FC fans will be glad to hear that Italian attacker Federico Bernardeschi is back after serving a one game suspension for yellow card accumulation. With the current form that fellow Italian Lorenzo Insigne has found after sustaining a injury earlier on in the campaign, his performance against Cincinnati was full of quality – something which earned him team of the matchday honors for matchday 16.

With with Bernardeschi back in the squad, the duo will be a vital force and spark for Toronto FC as they head down south to take care of some business and get back into winning ways.

After the mid-week Philadelphia game with kickoff set to take place at 7:30PM EST, the Reds will then have to head for DC United to conclude the short road trip before a two week break begins due to the aforementioned international games.
