Toronto FC Loses 2-1 To Orlando City At BMO Field

The losing slump continues for the Reds as they fall short 2-1 at home to Orlando City in their second meeting this season.

The loss was despite the Reds going up quite early thanks to a goal from Derrick Etienne Jr. in the 5th minute after a long cross from recently named all-star player Federico Bernardeschi sent it into the box to Raoul Petretta, who then headed the ball across to Etienne, who put it away from close range marking his second goal as a Red.

The Reds’ efforts and sole goal from Etienne Jr would not hold up and Orlando’s Martin Ojeda who found himself in the box and unmarked netted away his second of the season in the 27th minute.

After Ojeda’s goal Orlando would find their footing countless of times yet their winning goal would come at the hands of a cross from Torre’s deflecting off Gomis leg and past returning keeper Sean Johnson.

The loss extends Toronto’s winless streak to eight straight matches with and a five game losing streak.

Toronto FC, Atlanta United, and Orlando City now stand on the same number of points (24) with both Atlanta and Orlando having a game in hand to be played.

The situation becomes tricker as the Reds fall further into the winless streak after several matches where they couldn’t hold on to a lead.

Toronto FC’s next game is on Saturday as they head to take on third place eastern conference team Columbus Crew, the 2023 MLS champions, for the first time this season.
