York Clears Up International Space: Salanovic, Vincensini Depart

Given that York United Club President Ricardo Pasquel said that most of the club’s roster would be turned over, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to see the club clear out some international roster spots.

In tandem with today’s inbound trade of Gabriel Bitar, the Nine Stripes have confirmed that Leichtenstein international Dennis Salanovic and French goalkeeper Thomas Vincensini both had their options declined.

There’s no international who tallied more minutes for York United last year than Vincensini, who was even nominated for a golden glove – so perhaps his departure is the most surprising, particularly with his understudy Eleias Himaras having been scooped by Valour.

The Corsican played in every possible match for York United last year, tallying six clean shaves and 73 saves through a league campaign that led them to playoffs.

The Nine Stripes will have an entirely fresh goalkeeper duo for the upcoming season, though who’s coming in remains to be seen.

Lichtenstein international Dennis Salanovic proved a bigger style icon than a star on the pitch during his time at YLS: while he started with two goals in his first six appearances, a long injury spell ultimately limited his influence to just eleven appearances with no more goals coming forth.

The winger had lots of European experience from his time in Spain, Croatia, Switzerland, and Finland, but the former Atletico Madrid youth prospect is clearly best served with a new move elsewhere.

York recently confirmed the arrival of Pacific’s Adonijah Reid, though striker Brian Wright has crossed over to rival Forge FC with Morgan Babouli expected to follow.

At the moment, the only international on the books for 2025 is Mexican centre-back Oswaldo Leon.
