Nearly four months after Atletico Ottawa took in Liberman Torres on loan from Villareal, the Ecuadorian centre-back has finally entered the building.

It’s been a process, but the 22-year old loanee has finally arrived in the nation’s capital following a period of visa delays. Torres is a highly-touted defender, though Atletico Ottawa already boasts one of the strongest defensive records of the season: conceding just four goals in six league games, only Pacific FC has conceded less, though h top-of-the-table Ottawa has the best goal difference.

Torres arrives through a loan from Villareal, for whom he’s made four appearances in the reserve ranks before being loaned out to fourth tier side Recreativo de Huelva. He developed through Ecuadorian top tier side Independiente del Valle, featuring once for the first team before he caught Villarreal’s eye with some sharp performances in the U-20 Copa Libertadores two years ago.

“Torres is a versatile defensive player, who is physically strong and good on the ball allowing us to use him both as a central defender and a defensive midfielder,” said Atletico Ottawa CEO Fernando Lopez when the defender was first announced. “We believe he will contribute immensely to our ambitions for the upcoming season.”

The club has brought in some serious star power at the back, with Amer Didic and Matteo de Brienne coming in alongside the likes of former Barcelona baller Dani Morer and, now, Liberman Torres. When combined with additions like Manny Aparicio, Ballou Tabla, and Rayane Yesli, it was quite an offseason for Ottleti.

Torres wasn’t the only international addition to face arrival delays: Forge FC are still in a visa holding pattern for both Nana Ampomah and Elimane Cisse, the former of which is expected to be resolved anytime now whilst the latter continues to face delays.

It’s unclear if Torres will be available to suit up for the club’s high-profile clash against Forge this Saturday. though Gonzalez described him as not being match ready at the moment regardless.
