As Josh Healey reported earlier this week, Toronto FC defender Luke Singh has landed a new loan stint in the CPL, returning to Atletico Ottawa for another season.

The centre-back was recently spotted with Atletico Ottawa at the club’s preseason camp in Mexico alongside other unsigned talent like Amer Didic and Manny Aparicio.

The loan of Luke Singh will see the defender return for back-to-back seasons with Ottleti, with the defender having made 27 appearances under Carlos Gonzalez last year. He’d secured himself a starting centre-back role at TD Place, even tallying quite the goal against Cavalry:

“We are glad to have Luke return,” says Atletico Ottawa gaffer Carlos Gonzalez. “We already know that he is a player with very good physical and technical abilities, which makes him have a great impact on the team’s offensive game.”

“During last season we witnessed great growth in his ability to compete and we are sure that he will continue to evolve due to his good natural conditions and youth.”

This will mark his third CPL loan stint, with his first coming in 2022 with FC Edmonton. He made 24 appearances for the Albertan side in what became its final campaign, with the TFC loanee accruing plenty of game time and establishing himself as a big, physical presence within the league after a false-start loan with Pacific.

The Brampton-born defender signed a first team contract with TFC in 2021 after progressing through the club’s academy, where he had featured in League1 Ontario before signing a professional deal with Toronto FC’s USL affiliate in 2019. He’s currently on contract with TFC through to 2025.

Before his CPL loans, the defender had also been sent abroad to Danish Superliga side Brondby IF, whom he had trialed with the year prior. While he didn’t break into the first team, he did make 24 appearances at the reserve level before returning to train with the TFC first team in 2020.

The following season saw Luke Singh make his club debut for Toronto FC in a Champions League match away against Leon. He also started the next leg against them, inking his first team contract with Toronto FC afterwards, as he’d technically been on loan from Toronto FC II.

With Atletico Ottawa CEO Fernando Lopez teasing another new addition to come later today, the capital city club is looking to kick off the weekend with much aplomb.

The club remains in contract negotiations with Malcolm Shaw and Zachary Roy, with winger Zach Verhoven departing west for Vancouver FC last week.
