CPL Familiar Cedric Toussaint Tests Himself With FC Supra

The Canadian Premier League’s newest team still has a few roster spots left up on offer, and it looks like former Canadian Premier League familiar Cedric Toussaint is fighting for one of them.

The 24-year-old midfielder, a Drummondville native, could be positioning himself for one of the six roster spots left available. He isn’t the only free agent with CPL experience in camp, however, with full-back Zachary Fernandez also being spotted with the team as he recovers from injury.

According to Maxime Truman, Toussaint featured in what was largely considered an FC Supra youth and trialist side against the Montreal Carabins university setup. The visitors won the match four-nil, with a completely different squad of FC Supra personnel having bested CS Saint-Laurent one day prior.

In fact, just one of the starting players against the Laval, Quebec-based friendly is under contract with the CPL expansion side.

Toussaint, who was part of the CF Montreal Academy system before turning professional, spent the last season with Japanese side Iwate Grulla Morioka, but saw his season cut short through injury. Now fit, the Haiti international is hoping to reignite his club career just months before Haiti heads for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.

A four-year veteran of Canada’s top flight, Toussaint made 106 appearances split between Pacific FC and York United before spending last season abroad in Japan. His final season with Pacific saw him earn a call-up from Haiti, with the midfielder coming off the bench to lock in his first-ever cap against French Guiana.

Should Toussaint land himself a roster spot with FC Supra du Quebec, he would be re-united with former Nine Stripes teammate Diyaeddine Abzi, though he’s also suited up against many of the club’s existing roster.

Amongst last night’s starting trialists alongside Toussaint were U SPORTS draft picks Calin Calaidjoglu and Alexandre Marcoux, Lakeshore SC’s Alexander Makarova-George, CS Saint-Laurent’s Eliakim Awonongbadje, Darryl Guerrier, and Marco Marinaro, CS Longeuil goalkeeper Makhoudia Diop, free agents Joel Baudly Kontchou and Hachey Jonah, and under-contract defender Thomas Lebeuf.

Toussaint confirmed he was back at 100% fitness and that it felt good to be back on the pitch.

The inaugural FC Supra du Quebec season will kick off on April 4 with a cross-country flight west to Pacific FC on Vancouver Isle.
