The Halifax Wanderers have confirmed that Canadian U-21 goalkeeper Sinclair Astridge will be Marco Carducci’s understudy for the 2026 Canadian Premier League season.

The 20-year-old Dalhousie University product locks in his professional contract after featuring for the Wanderers U-21 team and inking a CPL-U SPORTS deal last season, having impressed goalkeeper coach Jan-Michael Williams enough to earn the first team position.

Hailing from the opposite coast and calling Victoria, British Columbia home, Astridge developed with the Vancouver Island Wave before heading east to play for Dalhousie University before the 2023 AUS season. The last three years have seen him progress well with the university side, registering nine clean sheets and landing an AUS Championship title last season.

Standing at six-foot-four, the youngster cuts a sizeable figure between the sticks.

The Halifax Wanderers have undergone a complete goalkeeper rotation from last season, with Rayane Yesli and Aiden Rushenas now playing in Algeria and Georgia respectively. Rushenas had also been with Dalhousie University, spending three campaigns with the Wanderers before departing.

Astridge’s contract with the club includes club options for 2027 and 2028.

“Sinclair has earned his opportunity and is a success story for our club, as he’s developed under our goalkeeper coach, Jan-Michael Williams, from a U-21 player to the first team,” reflects Wanderers head coach and general manager Vanni Sartini. “He has the stature to command his box and has good mobility; now he will look to add more experience under the guidance of Jan and the mentorship of Marco.”

Former Cavalry captain Marco Carducci is expected to lead the side between the sticks, having backstopped Cavalry for seven straight seasons, going all the way to win the championship in 2024 and featuring in multiple finals.
