Sturing Re-Signs With Inter Toronto Football Club
Inter Toronto Football Club has locked in the return of key defender Frank Sturing following a period of uncertainty when he fell out of contract.
The 28-year-old centre-back has been a key figure for the club throughout the last two seasons, racking up 44 appearances after the CPL side beat out other suitors for his signature in ’24.
Sturing has signed a new one-year deal – his third with the club – that will keep him with the side through its first-ever season as Inter Toronto Football Club, joining Oswaldo Leon as a key returning centre-back, with Luke Singh having remained on a guaranteed deal.
The 2025 CPL season saw the Dutch-Canadian defender earn five Team of the Week selections and three Performance of the Match Honours in 21 appearances, with the big man also scoring one goal.
Born in Nijmegen, Sturing proceed through the academy of local side NEC before making his professional debut in 2017. He spent three years with the club before leaving for rival side Den Bosch, then landed with SV Horn in 2021.
He had also represented the Netherlands at the youth level before cap-tying himself for Canada in a World Cup Qualifier against the Cayman Islands, also featuring in a seven-nil win over Aruba before falling out of the Canadian national team roster.
“Frank was a very important player for us last season,” says ITO head coach Mauro Eustaquio. “He brings calm, intelligence and consistency to our defensive structure. His ability to read the game, play out from the back, and lead by example makes him a valuable presence for our group. We’re happy to have him back as we continue building continuity and standards within the squad.”
The newly-rebranded Canadian Premier League side has made secured head-turning transfers for 2026, landing former CPL MVP Ollie Bassett and scooping fiery forward Beni Badibanga from rival Forge FC, amongst others.

“We kept a good core from last year and added some good players who have experience. I think we have a strong group, and I’m excited to see what we can do this year,” adds Sturing.
The 2026 Canadian Premier League season is expected to kick off in April and will feature a break in club action for the FIFA World Cup. The schedule has not yet been revealed by the league.
