Preview: Toronto FC Hosts Philadelphia Union In Midweek Clash
Following Toronto FC’s 2-1 home defeat to Nashville SC on Saturday, the Reds are continuing their three-game homestand at BMO Field. Tonight, they play host to the Philadelphia Union for some mid-week action for MLS matchday 16.
Toronto FC will be searching for some points as the club wraps up its May schedule at home. TFC is currently fourteenth in the Eastern Conference and is eight points outside of a playoff spot.
The challenge will be hard as the Union are currently top of the East table, and are currently unbeaten in nine matches.
“We expect it to be a very difficult game,” admits head coach Robin Fraser, “A very challenging game.”
Toronto has had some luck against the Union, as they are in fact unbeaten in their last three meetings against Philadelphia. The Union last won in Toronto in May 2019.
TFC are almost stringing back to full force with captain Jonathan Osorio made his return from injury on Saturday’s loss after missing four games. Defenders Raoul Petretta, Henry Wingo, and midfielder Markus Cimermancic are all available for selection for this Wednesday matchup.
What’s more, Richie Laryea – who has been sidelined since March 1 against Orlando City after sustaining a hamstring injury – could likely see a return for the weekend game against Charlotte FC.
A match at home will also be a lovely addition as the club will mark Toronto FC’s 300th MLS regular season home game in club history.
Catch action with kickoff at 7:30PM EST as the Reds look for a repeat of last season’s home result against Philadephia, when the two sides met on July 13 with the Reds securing a 2-1 comeback win thanks to a noff-the-bench brace from Deandre Kerr.
