Veth: Whitecaps To Sign CPL Youngster Emrick Fotsing
High-flying Vancouver FC aren’t just turning heads with their unprecedent league form this season, but also their increasingly stellar record for youth development.
Transfermarkt’s Manuel Veth reports that 18-year-old Vancouver FC midfielder Emrick Fotsing will make the short trip to neighbouring Major league Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps in a deal worth an estimated 350,000 USD. There are some undisclosed add-ons as part of that deal, too.
The move comes amidst Fotsing’s sophomore season in Canada’s top flight and some fine form for Canada at the U-20 level. As part of the deal, it is expected that the midfielder will be loaned back out to his CPL side for the remainder of the season.
Fotsing’s rookie campaign with Vancouver FC saw the young prospect show versatility from both defensive and central midfield positions, along with a few stretches out on the left flank. He tallied four goals in 24 appearances, with the Quebec-born talent adding thirteen appearances so far this year.
Fotsing has also been part of the Canadian national team setup at the youth level, making several appearances in the U-20 ranks.
This marks the second time Fotsing has been on the cusp of Major League Soccer minutes, having previously been an academy captain with CF Montreal’s U-18 side, even attending a pre-season camp with the club in 2024 before he was released and picked up by Vancouver FC.

It was only last year that the Eagles sold youngster Grady MacDonnell to Club Brugge, with the Langley-based outfit – despite being in only its fourth season – quickly generating a reputation for both playing and developing young Canadian talent.
The Whitecaps have taken chances on CPL talent before, and even recently brought in former Forge standout Kwasi Poku following a spell in Belgium, while others like Lowell Wright, Daniel Krutzen, and Kwame Awuah were all given opportunities during their CPL tenure.
