Cavalry FC CPL Shield 2026

CPL Matchweek 27 Recap – Cavalry, Supra Left Celebrating

By on October 26, 2026 0 122 Views

The Canadian Premier League regular season came to its conclusion on Sunday, with all four matches occurring at the same time. It was a fitting way to end nearly eight months of football.

All but one team found the back of the net in a crazy afternoon which saw changes in the standings, and drama everywhere. Here is a look back at all four games, and what they meant for the final league table:

Cavalry Win Third Shield

Heading into the day, Cavalry knew that victory over a Vancouver FC side trying to clinch the final playoff berth would see them win the regular season for the third time.

Both teams fielded their strongest lineups available in what was the must-watch game of the round. Given the weather the city experienced throughout the week, it was always going to be a difficult one on the players.

Only one goal was scored at ATCO Field, which came from the hosts 28 minutes in. Caniggia Elva was played in by Adam Pearlman and found Ali Musse, who put the ball in the back of the net.

The Eagles, who would clinch fourth place with a win and/or a Supra draw/loss, failed to register a shot on target throughout the 90 minutes. With an expected goals of 0.23, they hardly challenged Nathan Ingham in the Cavalry goal.

The Cavs managed to hold on in the end, with Vancouver’s Marcello Polisi receiving a red card just before the final whistle for a dangerous foul. Tommy Wheeldon Jr’s side prevailed 1-0 to claim their first shield since 2023. Vancouver, meanwhile, will miss out on the playoffs despite being in the top four since July.

Supra Enters Playoffs In Debut Season

On the east coast, Supra and HFX Wanderers were involved in a thrilling seven-goal contest where the Quebec-based outfit came out on top.

Knowing that three points were a must in order to have any shot at moving into the final postseason position, Supra only needed five minutes and change to go in front. Leading Golden Boot scorer Loic Kwemi found strike partner Ibrahim Conde with his cross. The latter made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

The lead was doubled later on in the half, which saw the Wanderers have a penalty kick be overturned while also hitting the bar. Conde was again the recipient of Kwemi’s pass as he slid the ball into the bottom corner.

Halifax, despite being eliminated from playoff contention, put in a good effort for the home fans, and was rewarded just before the break through Adonijah Reid, who found the top corner to halve the deficit.

The hosts levelled not long after the restart, as Charles Auguste directed a free kick into his own net.

Fortunately for Supra, Thomas Meilleure-Giguere returned the favour nine minutes later as he tried to block a Conde shot, instead taking a massive deflection that ultimately went in.

Kareem Sow restored parity as his header from a corner was redirected in, adding more drama to the afternoon.

But, Supra responded a minutes later. Sean Rea haunted his former side with a low shot that finds its way into the goal.

From there, the visitors held on for the final 20 minutes to confirm fourth spot and qualify for the playoffs in their debut campaign. Halifax finished the year in seventh place.

Midweek Success Haunts Forge In Draw

At Royal Athletic Park in downtown Victoria, Pacific and Forge played to a 1-1 draw, a result that proved inconsequential for the Hammers due to Cavalry’s win.

Having played a grueling Canadian Championship final during midweek – where they prevailed on penalties – Forge was looking to capture two trophies in the space of a week.

The Tridents, already rooted to the bottom of the standings, gave a strong performance to end what has been a miserable year. However, they fell behind in the 12th minute when Levonte Johnson teed up Tristan Borges, who fired first-time to the opposite corner to give the Hamiltonians the lead.

Forge went in front in the live standings with that goal, but by the 30th minute, they went back to second place due to Musse’s marker for the Cavs. The Hammers could have been in trouble as Manjrekar James narrowly avoided giving away a penalty. Fortunately for them, Pacific’s challenge proved unsuccessful.

The Tridents ended up having more shots in the match, carrying much of the play. They were rewarded for their hard work in the 72nd minute. Ronan Kratt did well to beat a man before powering a volley home off the bar. It was the first time in just over two years that Pacific scored against Forge.

The away side pushed to retake the lead in the final exchanges, but could not do so, having to settle for a point on the road. That saw them end a seven-match winning streak against Pacific as attention will now turn to next week’s playoff match in Ottawa.

Inter Toronto Ends Season On High

There was one match in Sunday’s play that seldom played any major significance in the final standings, where Inter Toronto hosted Atletico Ottawa. The former already knew they were playing their last game of the season, while the latter was already locked in at third spot.

The opener came with 10 minutes left in the opening half. Ariel Almagro received the ball inside the box, going for goal first-time. His brilliant effort found the top corner past a helpless Christopher Kalongo.

The Nine Stripes added a second just before the end, as Julian Altobelli mimicked Almagro’s shot from the first half as he also hit the top corner with a beautiful strike.

Ottleti did get a consolation goal with the last kick of the game. Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau was taken down in the box by Jason Brown, with the referee pointing to the spot.

The striker stepped up and made no mistake in converting the kick. That proved to be the last action of the match, however, as the full time whistle was blown immediately after.

Toronto’s win, coupled with the defeat from Halifax, saw them finish sixth in the final standings, ending a three-game losing streak. Ottawa will head into the postseason with back-to-back losses.
