Rumour: Supra Set To Make Splash With Brault-Guillard Signing?
FC Supra du Quebec are close to making a splash signing with former CF Montreal full-back Zachary Brault-Guillard, as per Quebec-based journalist Maxime Truman.
It was only last week that the journalist had revealed that the club were in discussions to bring former CF Montreal forward Jack McInerney out of retirement, too.
The Haiti-born athlete was raised in Montreal and came through the academy ranks of Olympique Lyonnais before making the move to CF Montreal, ultimately making 130 appearances for the Major League Soccer side over the span of five seasons.
Following the ’23 season, the right-back completed a move to Switzerland to sign for Lugano, making 47 appearances for the bianconero before departing this May – and is apparently now eyeing a return home that keeps him in the ranks of professional football.
Northern Tribune has been speculating that Brault-Guillard could be a sensational Canadian Premier League signing since 2024, predating the arrival of Quebec’s first CPL team. Just a year before, Zachary was earning national team nods while turning out in MLS – his profile has evidently dropped some, and even after four months of free agency once imagines he could quickly land well in Canada’s top flight.
After all, there’s a high ceiling for the full-back still, particularly at the CPL level.
The 27-year-old has made eight appearances for the national team, last featuring in the 2023 Gold Cup. His sole national team goal came in a 7-0 win over Aruba back in ’21, helping Canada on its path to reaching the country’s first World Cup since 1986.
Truman reported earlier tonight that the move was expected to be finalized within hours, though it’s currently unclear whether the veteran of over 100 MLS matches has come to terms with Supra. With the journalist stating that the full-back might even be ready to suit up this Sunday against Vancouver FC, things would need to be moving quickly.
Maxime Truman also speculates that the omission of the healthy Clement Bayiha from the club’s midweek Canadian Championship clash could be part of this puzzle, though it remains to be seen if that is the case.
Should FC Supra du Quebec land the former Major League Soccer baller, Brault-Guillard’s arrival would be one solid coup for a team that intentionally limits itself to Quebec-only signings.
With both Zachary Fernandez and Zachary Brault-Guillard potentially on the right flank, the ‘Zachary Union’ potential is strong – though we’ll have to wait until more facts come to light to celebrate such a signing for FC Supra.
