FIFA 23 Adds Marco Bustos

It was just under a month ago when Canadian Premier League star Marco Bustos was unveiled as the newest addition for Swedish Allsvenskan side IFK Varnamo, and that now reflects in FIFA 23 following the latest roster update.

Bustos is known for being one of the most fast-footed forwards in CPL history, recording some 23 goals and 20 assists during his time with Valour and Pacific. His in-game skills absolutely reflect the movement behind those numbers, with the 65-overall forward being credited with 84 agility, 71 acceleration, and 90 balance.

It’s nice to see that the FIFA scouts were watching his highlight reels which contained many a left-footed curler, with his AI traits including finesse shots and flair. Somehow, we feel like having a 66 dribbling rating does him dirty, though.

Marco Bustos has been in the FIFA franchise before, clocking in a 60 overall rating during his Whitecaps era in FIFA 18. His 21-year-old self can look forward to a rating bump of five overall, with the career mode version of the game allocating him a potential to raise that to 68, which is the ballpark area of where the game currently ranks CPL alumni Joel Waterman.

This is the highest FIFA rating given to a CPL export immediately following their in-game arrival from Canada’s domestic top flight. While Waterman’s ranking eventually rose to 67, he’s higher than the rest of the in-game CPL exports, with the closest to him being Lukas MacNaughton and Mohamed Farsi, who are both rated 63.

Last month saw former York United defender Dominick Zator added to the game following his move to Korona Kielse, with the 61-rated defender recently earning team of the week honours in real life.

Bustos is still awaiting the start of his debut season with IFK Varnamo, who will kick off their Allsvenskan campaign against IFK Goteborg on April 2. The club is keen to have him play an important role with the team, so he’ll be expected to get his shot in league play – and preseason friendlies – soon enough.

After that, perhaps a boost to his dribbling score.
