The hunt for York United’s next head coach has concluded ahead of schedule.

The Nine Stripes have announced that Jim Brennan’s successor will be unveiled during a virtual press conference on Tuesday, December 21 at 2:00PM EST, with Club President Angus McNab set to open the announcement.

The CPL side has been without a head coach for just under a month following the dismissal of Jim Brennan, who was let go following a 3-1 semi-final loss to rival side Forge FC. The former TFC Captain had coached the side throughout its first three seasons, with last season marking the club’s first playoff appearance.

McNab revealed earlier this month that the head coach hunt was progressing well, with the shortlist having been narrowed down to five international and five domestic candidates, some of whom had experience with national programs and others with continental.

“It’s about building what we feel is going to be sustained success to drive us on moving forward not just in the CPL, but with an eye on the prize on Concacaf Champions League and continental qualification in the future as well,” said McNab of the search.

Jim Brennan coached York Untied through its first three seasons.

When the opening became available, national team members Mark-Anthony Kaye, Alistair Johnston, and Kamal Miller all vouched for former Nine Stripes assistant coach Carmine Isacco, who said the opening was ‘food for thought’. Brazilian head coach Alexandre Gallo is also rumoured to be in the running.

The new York United head coach will also be tasked with establishing a firm on-field identity for the side, with McNab expecting them to deploy a high-tempo, free-flowing philosophy that ensures the club is known for more than just the young age of its players.

A club roster update had also been expected ahead of Christmas, and if that’s still on schedule this week is set to be a busy one for for Nine Stripes fans. The club had recently confirmed it had exercised options on Chrisnovic N’sa and Jordan Wilson, after which it brought in 18-year-old striker Mamadou Kane.

The York United head coach announcement will take place digitally tomorrow at 2:00PM EST.
