After winning the first leg of the Canadian Championship quarter-final against CS Saint-Laurent, the Reds turn their focus to some weekend MLS action. In this week’s matchup, TFC welcomes New York City at BMO Field.

Coach Herdman and the Reds will look to avoid giving the visitors the series sweep by New York City after they first lost 2-1 to them back in March at Yankee Stadium.

Last time around when Toronto took on New York away, the club was amidst a injury crisis that proved to effect the overall team’s performance. They came up short that night, and that thought might linger given that Toronto currently still has a pretty extensive injury list – but one important face coming back is Lorenzo Insigne.

The Reds have managed to put up some important wins and results landing them the current third place position in the eastern conference. The wins coming from all competitions against the likes of New England Revolution, Orlando City SC, and recently FC Dallas and League1 Ontario side Simcoe County Rovers.

TFC has been on the surge with each win putting distance from the memories of last season’s devasting showing.

Guests New York City trail behind in seventh place in the same conference. New York comes into this matchup at BMO Field after last weekend’s 2-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids at Citi Field.

Toronto will look to use the recent offensive showing from Italian DP Federico Bernardeschi who has been on a two-game goal scoring streak.

The Italian has also managed to find himself assisting a goal or two for his teams in recent games, providing the form Coach Herdman has needed from him all season. Prince Owusu, who also currently is the club’s top scorer this season, could also be a difference maker this time at BMO Field if given time on the field.

Coach Herdman will without a doubt seek out for a win at home this Saturday to continue the club’s recent strong results and look to further extend the clubs stint of wins.
