Foothills Youngster Mitchell Barrett Set For Fulham Trial
Calgary Foothills youngster Mitchell Barrett – who had a stint with Cavalry FC on a developmental deal last year – will be jumping across the pond for a trial stint with Premier League side Fulham FC.
Mitchell earned his opportunity to gel with Cavalry last year after impressing club brass with his performance for their tie-in U-20 AMSL side, where relatively new signing Gareth Smith-Doyle had also played.
His next opportunity has the potential to reach even greater heights, though the Fulham academy has some hefty competition with England U-16 goalkeeper George Wickens and USA U-20 goalkeeper Alex Borto.
“This is a testament to the hard work and dedication he has put in day in and day out,” read a release from the Foothills. “We wish him all the best and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Should Barrett ultimately impress over in England, there’s a chance that he could land himself an academy spot with the top flight side. Fulham are flying high in the English top flight, resting in seventh place – just five points outside of Europa League qualification.
Thus far Barrett’s closest stint with professional football has still been his short stint in the CPL last year, and that came and went without any appearances. Carducci and Roloff occupied the team sheets, with Tyson Farago having retired just prior to Barrett joining the team.

Barrett had been a member of the Calgary Foothills since he was ten, and was a member of their U-15 AYSL Championship winning team two years ago. More recently, he was also a starter for Team Alberta at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
There’s been Calgary-based talent who have trialed in the English top flight, with former Cavalry striker Aribim Pepple having done so with both Leicester City and Sheffield United. He’s now contract to Championship promotion contenders Luton Town.
While the 2023 CPL season is fast approaching Marco Carducci is the only goalkeeper on the Cavalry roster. Should Barrett ultimately return to the Foothills following his trial period in England, it’ll be interesting to see if he gets further opportunity with Cavalry FC.
