Ever-present Eddie Ramon Soria has re-signed for another year with Canadian Premier League side FC Edmonton.

Eddies head coach Alan Koch had told us that he was hoping to re-sign the 31-year-old in a prior interview, with the head coach now adding that Soria’s position within the squad – be it centre-back or defensive midfielder – depends on the remaining signings and partnerships of the current transfer window.

Soria has been a crucial figure for the CPL side, completing an iron man season at The Island Games last year after racking up 25 appearances in the inaugural CPL season, contributing four assists and a goal along the way.

We are excited to welcome Ramon back to the club. His experience and leadership will be especially important to the team as we prepare ourselves for a new system of play and the next CPL season.

Given that Soria donned the armband more than any other Eddies athlete at The Island Games, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Spanish defender named the out-and-out captain in the upcoming year. At the moment, the contract status of previous captain Tomi Ameobi has yet to be confirmed.

Prior to originally signing with FC Edmonton in 2019, Soria had played for no less than ten clubs throughout a professional career that saw the former Villareal youth product appear for the Spain U-17 team and play at the club level in Spain, Norway, Slovenia, Canada, and the USA.

Koch told us that the club was in need of bringing in more dynamic players capable of making runs behind attackers, while also noting that FC Edmonton needs to improve its performance when it comes to set pieces. For both, issues Soria ticks all the boxes:

His technical ability in the build-up phase and service on set-pieces will be crucial to the success of the team.

Alan Koch

The Spanish defender becomes the tenth player to sign for FC Edmonton during the transfer window, and the fifth to have re-signed from the previous year. Koch has recently brought in former Eddies Kyle Porter and Shamit Shomein addition Valour FC winger Fraser Aird.

The club also re-signed three of its academy products in addition to Easton Ongaro and Jeannot Esua, with Koch inking a contract with former Saint Louis City FC defender Paris Gee as his first official signing. Thus far, the 2021 FC Edmonton roster is off to a very solid start under Koch’s leadership.

FC Edmonton did not reveal the financial details or any possible extension options regarding Ramon’s new contract.
